I feel passionate about preventative medicine and exercise so that people can inhabit their most efficient body. We can struggle with so many emotional and mental obstacles in this life and believe that if we are happy and healthy in our physical body, that's one less thing to worry about. I was partly inspired to teach Pilates by a friend who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at 26. Now she experiences challenges with her body every day. I believe Pilates can be responsible for preventing forms of these types of diseases that damage our central nervous system. I see reformer as a fun and challenging way of doing Pilates but also as a bit of a rehabilitation geek! I love helping others overcome injuries or weaknesses that have been holding them back and look towards a healthy lifestyle for the long term.
What's your favorite exercise on the reformer and why?
Weighted cat/cow stretch. Such a challenging exercise for the body and the mind. This exercise challenges great awareness of alignment.
In your quest for health and fitness what other habits complement your Pilates practice.
I eat a 100% plant based diet. I feel this fuels my body with everything it needs and keeps me pretty clear of extra toxins and additives. I was brought up on alternative medicine and believe our diets are responsible for so much more than we may think. Having said that, enjoying healthy food is the key. If you don't love it there's not much point.
Can you give us one tip for better living?
Meditation. As little or as often as you can. Every second of mindfulness in this crazy world counts.
Can you tell us something about you that most people wouldn't know?
I own a Blue Peter badge.
