Frequently asked questions

Please find below the answers to some of the commonly asked questions.
If you can't find your answer here do get in touch.
Is a Reformer Pilates practice right for you?
The short answer is yes! Reformer Pilates can help improve and maintain overall physical fitness – leading to greater strength, flexibility and balance, which in turn improve posture, movement and mental health. Reformer Pilates should form a key component to any person wanting to improve their overall fitness.

Benefits of a Reformer Pilates Practice:
  • Increased wellness and vitality. Pilates is not just a physical discipline. A Pilates practice promotes mindfulness and correct breathing patterns which will reduce stress, increase vitality and overall wellness.
  • Improved Strength and muscle tone. With so many exercises possible and the variable resistance of the springs. Practising Pilates will make you stronger, more durable, looking leaner and definitely fitter.
  • Low impact but highly effective. No pounding on you joints but yet challenging enough to build some serious fitness.
Conditions that can be helped by a Pilates practice:
  • Low back pain. In a lot of cases, the pain originates from weak abdominal and poor posture. Your Pilates practice addresses both and should provide you with some drug free relief.
  • Scoliosis. Strengthening your core with provide more stability to your spine, possibly regress the condition, but surely help keep the condition under control.
  • Abdominal diastasis. Separated abs from an accident or a pregnancy are not always a medical issue but can be aesthetically problematic. A Pilates practice can help decrease the gap by working on the deep abdominal. A strong brace is created and with the smaller waist, the gap is reduced.
  • And many more such as Sciatica, Kyphosis, Lordosis, fixing muscle imbalances and improving posture.
Which Class should I book into?
Beginner:
If you are new to Pilates, have not exercised in a long time or have medical considerations, this is the class for you. We will teach you how to use the reformer and perform the basic movements. These are our slowest classes but as with all our classes we keep them challenging. We recommend doing as many of these as required until you feel you are ready for more challenge.

All levels (Beginner + Intermediate):
These are usually scheduled in our slowest times and all levels are welcome. The instructor will accommodate all students by offering alternatives and modifications to exercises as required. This class is suitable for both beginners and intermediates. If you are new to the studio and do have medical considerations, we recommend attending the beginner classes.

Intermediate:
Our most challenging classes. These are for the already initiated with good strength and body awareness. Expect more challenging routines as well as the introduction of new exercises.
What should I wear
  • You should wear comfortable active wear. As alignment is key, form fitting is preferred as it provides instructor with a better visual assessment of your form.
  • You are also required to wear grip socks. These can be purchased on Ebay or Amazon. We have a selection to purchase in studio for £15 (cash)

Private Pilates
Flowing Body Pilates does offer private Pilates classes when requested. We do not have designated private slots so appointments are organized on an on demand basis. Here is how to proceed to secure a private with us:
  1. In an email let us know your current situation, your concerns and what you seek to achieve with the privates. This information will help us find you the best instructor to match your needs and ensure you get the most personalized routine possible.
  2. In the above email list 3 or 4 times when you can do those privates
  3. Finally, let us know in which studio you would like to train
Upon receiving this information, we will attempt to match you with an available instructor. If confirmed, we will require you to purchase your package and we will book the appointment.
Pregnancy Pilates
We do not currently offer prenatal classes. Should the demand increase we would be happy to add such a class to the schedule.
We require the following to take you on:
  • Physician's approval
  • You should be less than 6 months pregnant. We can train you much further than that but we cannot have you start the new fitness regimen after that date.
Should you qualify, the next step will be to attend a beginner class or take a private with one of our instructors.
Please make sure you let the instructor know you are pregnant! Updates on how far you are in your pregnancy will help select the best modifications for you.
